blind commentary

Welcome to 'blind commentary's EPK.

blind commentary is an up-and-coming shoe-gaze and alternative-rock band based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Their start began with the release of their debut track, Frail, which delves into the complexities of mental health struggles, and body image. The band's main sound of shoe-gaze is prominent, enveloping listeners in layers of dreamy fuzzy tones and reverb-filled guitars. The infusion of alt-rock adds a raw edge to their music, evident in their EP 'eyes open and staring'.

While their music takes center stage, blind commentary's real advantage lies in their electrifying performance energy. Their live shows are a testament to their ability to connect with audiences through dynamic interactions and high-energy performances. Behind the scenes, they continue to grow their music collection, having released their EP: eyes open and staring, in June 2024.

Declan Hills, North Sask Music Zine Writer
"The soft and understated verses give way to choruses that walk a tightrope between overdrive sludge and delicate falsetto dishware. It’s smart and deliberate - this band does not put the first heavy riff and vocal line they think of to tape; they iterate."

At the core of the band's artistry, acquires authenticity with their raw and unfiltered messages within their music. The messages inserted through their music regarding anger, queerness, identity, and disordered eating is a huge highlight to blind commentary, and they want to keep creating authenticity which addresses real life struggles they have gone through or currently are going through within their growing platform and music. This dedication to raw sound and heartfelt chaos relates to the same ideals as artists they are influenced by.

Melanie Macpherson, North Sask Music Zine Writer
"Blind Commentary, a fresh new dish on the scene that packed a punch with its grunge-tinged earthiness perfectly mixed with a spicy metal kick. The dual vocalists added a dynamic edge, and with all of the potential I heard, I'll definitely be sampling more in the future."

Influences such as My Bloody Valentine, Title Fight, Pinegrove, and Radiohead have been a huge aspect they insert into their music.

Matt Stinn, Saskatoon-based award winning producer and musician
"‘Candle,’ starts abruptly with a more upbeat and off-kilter feel that makes me think of Sonic Youth. Featuring a more driving rhythm vibe than the previous tracks along with more scream-centric vocals – ‘Candle’ immediately stands by itself and provides and welcomed sense of change at the point in a release when audiences typically get tired of the same old."

Comprising four talented members, Blind Commentary's lineup includes: Sam Thomson (he/him) on rhythm guitar, Liam Swenson (they/them) commanding the drums while also contributing as a co-vocalist, Liam Jones (he/him) lending his soulful vocals and bass skills, and Malcolm (he/they) igniting the stage with their lead guitar prowess.
