blind commentary is an up-and-coming midwest emogaze band based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The band’s signature sound can best described as a dynamic fusion between emogaze, shoegaze, and grungegaze–essentially any and all variations of ‘gaze’.

While their music takes center stage, blind commentary's real advantage lies in their electrifying performance energy. Their live shows are a testament to their ability to connect with audiences through dynamic interactions and high-energy performances. Behind the scenes, they continue to grow their music collection, having released their EP: eyes open and staring, in June 2024.

blind commentary leans into Midwest emo lyricism, unapologetically blending screamo into their sound. Their music is raw and chaotic live, and their recorded work aims to capture that same energy by layering different emotions, textures, reverb, and sounds. They don’t force depth where it isn’t there, everything is honest, pulled from real experiences around anger, queerness, identity, and disordered eating, and shaped by what they’ve lived or are still living through.

Declan Hills, North Sask Music Zine Writer
"The soft and understated verses give way to choruses that walk a tightrope between overdrive sludge and delicate falsetto dishware. It’s smart and deliberate - this band does not put the first heavy riff and vocal line they think of to tape; they iterate."

Melanie Macpherson, North Sask Music Zine Writer
"Blind Commentary, a fresh new dish on the scene that packed a punch with its grunge-tinged earthiness perfectly mixed with a spicy metal kick. The dual vocalists added a dynamic edge, and with all of the potential I heard, I'll definitely be sampling more in the future."

Matt Stinn, Saskatoon-based award winning producer and musician
"‘Candle,’ starts abruptly with a more upbeat and off-kilter feel that makes me think of Sonic Youth. Featuring a more driving rhythm vibe than the previous tracks along with more scream-centric vocals – ‘Candle’ immediately stands by itself and provides and welcomed sense of change at the point in a release when audiences typically get tired of the same old."

Comprising of four sask members, blind commentary's lineup includes: Sam Thomson (he/him) on rhythm guitar, Lia Swenson (they/them) on drums and vocals, Liam Jones (he/him) on bass and vocals, and Bailey Quinney (he/him) on lead.

Bands such as Title Fight, American Football, Mom Jeans, Modern Baseball, Pinegrove, Women, Febuary, and Wednesday have been a huge influence to the music-expression of blind.
